Downloading the models fails at seemingly random points for me. My connection might not be 100% stable, but I have no problems downloading files using a web browser like Safari or Firefox on the same connection.

You can try the mirror site to download models, maybe is faster.
Just copy this url to the Settings/General/Mirror Url field.
